What is Nag Champa Incense used for?

If you haven’t burned incense before, we think that Nag Champa is the best one to start with. The beautiful scent can be enjoyed for a multitude of soothing and healing benefits. The fragrance has a rich history and has remained largely unchanged for centuries, which we think only adds to the experience!  We recommend the premium Invoke Nag Champa and also Om Nag Champa.  Nag Champa Incense has a very long and ancient history.

First made by the monks of the Jyotirlinga Temple in Nepal before spreading in popularity, Nag Champa Incense has been used for centuries across Nepal and India. Now found worldwide, the incense is traditionally used for meditation ceremonies, Nag Champa is considered to be sacred to the Hindu God Vishnu. Since the 1960s, it has endured as one of the most popular and identifiable incenses in the West.

Nag Champa is traditionally made from three ingredients:

Sandalwood- wood from the Santalum genus of trees. Sandalwood is a popular ingredient in essential oils, incense, and candles due to its long lasting and relaxing aroma.

Halmaddi- resin from the Ailanthis Malabarica tree. The Ailanthis Malabarica is known as the “tree of heaven”, a reference to its rapid growth towards the sky.

Champa- the yellow, fragant flower of the Champa tree. Champa trees are a member of the Magnolia, and are native to India.

This simple formula produces what we would describe as a sweet, floral scent with just a hint of spice.

We love to use it as a day to day burn for the lovely scent, but Nag Champa Incense also has the following uses and benefits:

It is said to cleanse and purify your environment.  If you are ever feeling anxious in a space, burning some Nag Champa will transform the area energetically. This is said to be the case partly because the main ingredient is Sandalwood, which is considered very good for space clearing.
